Northern Michigan Panthers to Play for GMFC Title

GAYLORD – The Northern Michigan Panthers will play for the GMFC Championship on Saturday night at Gaylord High School.

The Panthers are 8-1 this season and will host the Albion Warriors, a team they beat 28-8 earlier this season.

This is the Panthers third year of existence and their mission is to provide another avenue for players to continue their football careers after high school.

The team said reaching the championship makes them feel proud of what they’ve built over the last few years.

“We’re just grateful for this opportunity and we want everyone to see all the work that we’ve put in culminate to this championship for us. It’s really cool to be a part of this experience,” said cornerback Chandler Roberts.

“We’re just out there to have fun,” said quarterback Zack Putnam. “We’re not getting paid. We take time away from our normal lives — from work, from family — to go out and practice, to go to games and to travel. So I mean it’s a group of guys that we’re passionate about football and we enjoy the game and the camaraderie.”

Kickoff for the championship game is set for 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
