Pit Spitters Roll Rockford Rivets 6-1, TC Extends Winning Streak to Six Games

TRAVERSE CITY – After being tied for last place in the Great Lakes East division last week, the Traverse City Pit Spitters extended their winning streak to six games following a 6-1 win over the Rockford Rivets at home Monday morning.

The Pit Spitters improve to 8-6 overall and are now in sole second place in the division, just 0.5 games behind the first-place Battle Jacks.

Traverse City got on the board first with a three-run opening inning. Camden Traficante drove home two runs. He scored later in the inning by stealing home.

Pitcher Jeremy Neff earned the win in his season debut at Turtle Creek Stadium. He went five innings, allowing just three hits and one unearned run. Neff finished with seven strikeouts on the day.

TC answered an unearned Rockford run in the top of the fifth with two in the bottom half. Colin Summerhill doubled home Evan Orzech, and then Trey Truitt III walked in a run with the bases loaded.

Summerhill finished 3-3 with two doubles, an RBI, one run and a walk.  Orzech added a two-out RBI single in the sixth.

The Pit Spitters sweep the Rivets in the two-game series. The team hits the road to face the Kenosha Kingfish on Tuesday at 7:35 p.m.
