Former CMU, NFL Quarterback, Survivor Contestant Gary Hogeboom in Manton for Youth Camp

MANTON – Former Central Michigan and NFL quarterback Gary Hogeboom is in Manton to help with a youth football camp that kicked off on Monday.

Non-sports fans might recognize Hogeboom’s name from his appearance on the reality show “Survivor.”

Hogeboom spent 11 years in the NFL with the Colts, Cowboys, Cardinals and Washington. He says he loves doing camps like this because he’s always excited to be around athletes looking to improve.

“I love being around people. I love being around young athletes that are trying to get better. Hopefully through sports in high school and youth sports they learn characteristics and tendencies that they’ll take with them the rest of their life,” said Hogeboom.

“We wanted to start during the school year so the kids are already at school and parents don’t have to come and pick-up and drop-off. We’ve already got them here so we can start them here early, get them motivated for the upcoming football season. I thought it was great timing and a great idea,” said Manton head football coach Eric Salani.

The two-day youth camp will wrap up tomorrow.
