Evart Softball Loses to Millington in Extra Innings in State Championship

EAST LANSING — Evart and Millington went into extra innings in their Division 3 state championship in softball, with the Cardinals winning in the eighth inning, 3-2. Millington wins its second title in four years.

Evart trailed 2-1 entering the seventh inning, but the Wildcats took advantage of a pair of errors by Millington in the inning to get Brooklyn Decker over to third and eventually score the game-tying run after Katelyn Gostlin got to first on an error. Both teams entered extra innings tied at two.

Dylan Holmes secured the 3-2 victory for Millington with an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth.

This year marked Evart’s deepest postseason run in program history. The Wildcats had never been to the semifinals and had only made the quarterfinals once in 1999.
