Evart Advances to First State Championship in Softball

EAST LANSING — The Evart softball team continued its impressive postseason run with a 6-1 victory over Grandville Calvin Christian on Friday in the Division 3 state semifinal.

The Wildcats fell behind 1-0 after the first inning, but stormed out to a 5-run second inning to take the lead. They never looked back after that.

Addysen Gray led Evart on the mound with eight strikeouts in seven innings. She also allowed just four hits and one earned run. At the plate, she kept up the big play with three hits and a run batted in and a run scored.

Kylynn Thompson added two runs batted in for the Wildcats.

Evart advances to its first state championship game, and the Wildcats will meet Millington on Saturday at 3 p.m. Millington will make its third state championship appearance since 2018. They won it all in 2019, but lost in 2018.
