ELK RAPIDS – Traverse City St. Francis softball dominated Elk Rapids in a doubleheader, winning 18-0 and 14-6, as the Gladiators’ secure the Lake Michigan Conference title on Thursday night.
The Gladiators received a two-run homer from Brooke Meeker in game one and another homerun in the second game to bring her current homerun count to 9 on the season.
Meeker finished the night with 5 RBI to lead St. Francis to its second consecutive Lake Michigan Conference championship.
Junior Allee Shepherd threw 5 scoreless innings, allowing only 2 hits and 1 walk. Shepherd with stellar defense behind her boosted her ERA to 1.305 ERA for the season on her way to an 11-1 record.
In game two, Traverse City pitcher Kensley Thorpe earned the win. Thorpe, only a freshman, now carries a 12-1 record on the season.
Traverse City St. Francis improves to 26-2-1 overall and 11-2 in conference play. The Glads next host the first game of districts on Saturday, June 4.
Elk Rapids falls to 16-8 on the year and 6-6 in the Lake Michigan Conference.
