Kalil Pimpleton ‘Blessed’ by NFL Opportunity With Detroit Lions

DETROIT – Former Central Michigan standout wide receiver Kalil Pimpleton is living out his NFL dream with the Detroit Lions.

Pimpleton took part in the team’s rookie mini camp over the weekend after signing with Detroit as an undrafted free agent.

“Blessed,” Pimpleton said when summarizing what the opportunity means to him. “I just can’t thank God enough for allowing me to grow up here in the state of Michigan and have the support system that I have and the mindset that I have”

It’s hard to imagine a much better fit for him than the Lions. Much like Pimpleton, Lions head coach Dan Campbell is an energetic guy who places a high value on hard work and preaches that regardless of draft position, everyone who walks through the door of the Lions facilities can contribute.

Last season, undrafted free agents like AJ Parker and Jerry Jacobs played pivotal roles in the Lions secondary.

“We’ve always said that we’re going to get the type of guys that match what we’re about and that is a gritty group of guys who love ball,” Campbell said at rookie mini camp. “And by the way, they’re explosive athletes.

“I feel like there’s a compatibility with me and coach Dan Campbell on the energy standpoint and realizing that it doesn’t really matter where you’re drafted,” Pimpleton said. “As long as you come in and compete you’ll have your opportunity. That’s all I’m about is competing.”

A chance to compete.

It sounds so simple, but for Pimpleton, that chance at this level is what he’s been hoping for his whole life.

“To come out here and finally have the opportunity to chase my dreams and make my dreams come true. It means a lot. So I definitely feel blessed.”
