JOHANNESBURG-LEWISTON- As the regular season winds down, the Johannesburg-Lewiston baseball team is still in the hunt for a back-to-back Ski Valley Conference title, chasing top-ranked Inland Lakes. But the team’s main focus is still the playoffs.
After an impressive 28-5 season last year, the Cardinals suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss in the district finals to Rogers City.
Joburg is 15-11 so far in 2022, but they haven’t lost sight of winning their first district crown since 2019.
“We hope to win as many games as possible. You know, that’s always a priority. But districts is going to be huge. I mean, we want to get a district title. That’s our goal really,” said Johannesburg-Lewiston senior Preston Marlatt.
“I’d like to see some decent pitching going into districts. We’ve got a tough district this year, so just to see some good pitching in games, they’ll have to scratch and claw to win is great going in,” said Johannesburg-Lewiston baseball head coach Cody Proctor.
The Cardinals split a conference doubleheader with Onaway on Thursday night.
