Grand Traverse Resort Preps for Wolverine Weekend, 105th Michigan Open Championship

TRAVERSE CITY – With summer just around the corner, Grand Traverse Resort and Spa is gearing up for some exciting events coming this June, including Wolverine Weekend and the 105th Hall Financial Michigan Open Championship.

Wolverine Weekend kicks off with a Sports Talk 1050 WTKA live broadcast on Saturday, June 18 with Sam Webb, Ira Weintraub and special guest Devin Gardner live from the clubhouse.

After the show, students, fans and alumni can take part in a golf outing on The Wolverine course. The outing also includes meet-and-greet photo opportunities throughout the course with J.J. McCarthy, Ronnie Bell and Ryan Hayes.

The weekend continues with a ticketed dinner and speaker series. There will be an extended meet-and-greet session with the athletes, Gardner, and author John U. Bacon.

The 105th Michigan Open begins on Monday, June 13 and ending Thursday, June 16, 2022 on The Bear golf course. The tournament is open for public viewing at no charge.

The tournament, presented by Turtle Creek Casino and Caesars Sportsbook, will take place on The Bear for the 29th time in tournament history and 33rd time at the resort.

Six-time champion Scott Hebert of Traverse City Golf & Country Club and defending champion Brad Smithson of Grand Rapids head a list of 10 former champions who are entered.

Recent Open winners who are part of that list include Jake Kneen of White Lake (2018), Matt Thompson of Hillsdale (2017), Jeff Bronkema of Caledonia (2016), Tom Werkmeister of Grand Rapids (2013) and Randy Hutchison of Traverse City (2011).
