FORT WORTH, Texas — Clare High School and Central Michigan alum Kasey Staley continues to dominate in the pole vault. In just her first year as a grad student at Texas Christian University, she has broken both the indoor and outdoor school records.
In one of her first meets as a Horned Frog, Staley broke the indoor school record with a 4.10-meter vault at the Woo Pig Classic back in December. She placed fourth overall in the event.
She then set a new career-high jump on day one of the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Conference Championship at the end of February. Staley jumped a 4.27m, shattering her own TCU indoor record.
With that vault she hit the 14-foot mark, a goal that was long-awaited. She placed fourth again at the conference finals.
As the Horned Frogs kicked off the outdoor season at the Longhorn Invitational last weekend, Staley’s 4.20-meter vault earned her first in the event and broke the previous school record of 4.00 meters.
She now holds both the indoor and outdoor school records at TCU.
“Not a lot of people can say that, so that’s kind of cool. I’m glad I could get that one in at CMU and then these two here and then plus some high school ones and like, that’s not bad. Ever since I transferred, the coaching staff has been fantastic and my teammates are awesome. Got in the 14-foot club, I’ve been waiting on that jump. So that was cool. I took five years, but I got there, so it was really awesome. I just hope it keeps getting better,” said Staley.
Staley now looks to qualify for the upcoming NCAA Outdoor Championships in June.
