Pine River Wrestling Eyes Second Consecutive District Title

LEROY – The district tournaments for individual and team wrestling start this week and Pine River is one program looking to win a district title for a second consecutive season.

The Bucks won 22 matches during the regular season and they are currently ranked eighth in the state for Division 4. Head coach Terry Martin said it feels like his team is finally getting fully healthy at the right time.

“Conditioning is kind of getting to where we need it to be. Our biggest work right now is just getting everybody on the mound. Between sicknesses and injuries we’ve been trying to kind of nurse it through the regular season and be ready for next week when the postseason gets here,” said Pine River head wrestling coach Terry Martin.

“I think we’ve really improved a lot this year. We came in with a lot of seniors so it’s good to have a lot of experience on the team. I personally have been working really hard trying to be more aggressive on the mat to try and score some more points,” said Pine River senior Phil Rigling.

The Bucks open postseason competition against Manton on Thursday night at 6 p.m.
