Michigan Suspends Howard for Remainder of Regular Season

ANN ARBOR — Michigan has suspended men’s basketball head coach Juwan Howard for the remainder of the regular season, a total of five games, following his altercation with Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard at the end of Sunday’s game between their two teams.

Howard, who was upset about Gard grabbing him in the line while shaking hands, threw a punch toward Gard and hit Wisconsin’s assistant coach. The Wolverines lost to the Badgers, 77-63.

The Big Ten announced that Gard was fined $10,000, but not suspended. Three athletes have been suspended for one game: Michigan’s Terrance Williams II and Moussa Diabate and Wisconsin’s Jahcobi Neath.

Michigan holds a 14-11 overall record and 8-7 in the Big Ten. Their next game is on Wednesday against Rutgers at home. They have another three home games against Illinois, Michigan State and Iowa before ending the regular season against Ohio State on the road.
