Battle of the Blue Devils: Gaylord, Sault Ste. Marie to Meet in Hockey Regional Semifinal

GAYLORD – Gaylord and Sault Ste. Marie will play Friday night for a berth in the Div. 3 regional championship.

Sault Ste. Marie finished the regular season with a 12-11-2  regular season record, marking the first time in four years the Blue Devils enter the playoffs with a winning record.

Gaylord was 8-15-1 in the regular season and had won just one of its last nine games before a playoff-opening 6-4 win over Manistique.

Sault Ste. Marie head coach Rick Mackie said his tam is having some of its best practices at the right time.

“I don’t worry about who we’re going to play. I worry about how we’re playing right now and and to me, I think we’re as fast as we’ve been,” Mackie said. “We’re moving the puck as well as we’ve been. Our intensity level is high. So we’ve just got to put together a real strong week of practice, be detailed and make sure that we’re ready to go Friday night.”

The winner will play the winner of Cheboyban vs. Alpena in the regional championship game.
