St. Ignace Sweeps Mackinaw City in Boys, Girls Basketball

ST. IGNACE — St. Ignace hosted Mackinaw City in both boys and girls basketball for their annual Hooping for a Cure game, with the Saints winning both games. St. Ignace won in girls basketball, 65-38, and in boys basketball, 75-30.

It was the 14th annual Hooping for a Cure game, with the event raising $248,000 throughout its years leading into Tuesday.

The St. Ignace girls team held a 25-21 lead at halftime, but built that up to 45-26 after three quarters. Jillian Fraser led the Saints with 16 points. The girls game also had a 35-second shot clock, one of 10 schools trying it out.

With the win, the St. Ignace boys team has won eight straight games. They will host Cheboygan on Thursday. The girls have won 14 straight games and they will also host Cheboygan on Thursday.

Mackinaw City falls to 17-2 on the season in girls basketball, with both losses coming against St. Ignace. They’ll look to bounce back on Thursday against Inland Lakes. The boys will take on International Academy of Flint on Saturday at home.
