Time Trials Begin for I-500 Snowmobile Race

SAULT STE. MARIE — Time trials began for the I-500 Snowmobile Race in Sault Ste. Marie on Thursday, with riders getting ready for Saturday’s 53rd running of the race.

The I-500 was canceled in 2021 due to COVID-19 concerns. In 2020, on what ended up being a muddy track due to high temperatures that year. After the first day of time trials, riders are liking what they see from the track.

“I’ve been on the track once today, and the track’s good. You know, they do a great job here. The Sault team’s world class as far as track building goes. They do a great job every year,” Sault native and racer Collin Henderson said. “Track feels good so far. And, you know, obviously we’ve got two days left to go and we’ll see how it shapes up by Saturday morning. But I think we’re off to a good start.”
