Rudyard Wins Thriller Over Sault Ste. Marie in Season Opener

SAULT STE. MARIE – In the season-opener for both teams, Rudyard came away with a thrilling 60-58 win over Sault Ste. Marie in boys basketball Thursday.

With 16 seconds to go, Sault Ste. Marie trailed 57-56. The Blue Devils’ Nathan Koepp followed up a teammate’s miss and put it back in to give Sault Ste. Marie the one point lead.

Rudyard still had some time left and E.J. Suggitt drove right down the court, finishing at the rim and drawing a foul. He would make the free throw to give Rudyard the two-point victory.

Rudyard’s next game is Saturday afternoon at home against Lake Leelanau St. Mary’s.

Sault Ste. Marie plays five consecutive home games to open the season. The Blue Devils next game is against Boyne City on Friday night.
