GLEN LAKE – Glen Lake senior Makenna Scott signed her letter of intent on Early National Signing Day earlier this month to continue cross country and track at Oakland University next fall.
Scott boasts and impressive resume which includes winning the 2021 MHSAA Division 4 3200-meter state title in track and finishing as state runner-up in the 1600.
She added two regional track championships and is a two-time All-Conference honoree.
She is also the 2020 Division 4 cross country individual state champion.
Scott ended her illustrious high school cross country career as a four-time All-State runner with three top four finishes. She was named to All-Conference all four years and was a three-time regional champion.
She recorded 16 total wins in cross country, helping to lead the Glen Lake girl’s team to three state finals. The senior etched her name into the program’s record books as the second-fastest runner in school history behind Marissa Treece.
Scott joins a Golden Grizzlies’ team at Oakland that’s won four out of the last seven Horizon Conference cross country and track championships. As she enters into the next chapter of her life, Scott said she is excited for the challenges ahead.
“I feel really, really blessed because I know not everybody has this opportunity. Some people are done after high school and with how much running means to me and the success drives me. I love success. I mean, who doesn’t? It really fulfills me. So, to know that I am going to be able to keep working and I don’t have to stop. I can still reach goals and I can still have failures that lead to bigger goals, really excites me,” said Scott.
Scott added she plans on studying to become a NICU nurse and work with newly born babies.
