Ferris State Volleyball Prepares for NCAA Tournament

BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State volleyball will host its region of the NCAA Division II Volleyball Tournament.

The Bulldogs are the No. 1 seed in their region and will open the tournament against Rockhurst on Thursday night.

Ferris State started the season 5-4 but have won 20 straight matches, capping it off with a thrilling five-set victory over Michigan Tech in the GLIAC Tournament Championship.

The Bulldogs and Rockhurst are both ranked in the top 10 in the Midwest Region of Division II, with the Bulldogs ranked second and Rockhurst fifth.

Ferris State is also ranked No. 23 nationally.

“Rockhurst has a really balanced offense. They’ve got three hitters all the time because they run a 6-2,” said Bulldogs head volleyball coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm. “We just know that that’s going to be something that we really have to contend with. The fact that there’s always going to be a couple of hitters that you have to worry about, which makes it a little bit harder on your defense.”

The winner of Thursday night’s game will play Friday night against the winner of UMSL and Lewis.
