SAULT STE. MARIE – The Lake Superior State hockey team opened CCHA play with a 3-1 win over St. Thomas (Minn.) at Taffy Abel Arena on Friday.
Jacob Bengtsson delivered the go-ahead goal at the four-minute mark of the third period. Harrison Roy then put the game on ice with an empty net goal with less than a minute remaining in regulation.
Ethan Langenegger turned away 29 shots in net to earn the win for LSSU (2-3-0, 1-0-0).
The two teams close out their series at 7:07 p.m. Saturday.
