Mt. Pleasant Replaces Talented Senior Class

MT. PLEASANT – After recording its eighth consecutive winning campaign a year ago, Mt. Pleasant is tasked with replacing a talented and sizable senior class.

Mt. Pleasant’s Class of 2021 went 28-10 over four seasons, with a pair of playoff victories and a Saginaw Valley League championship to its credit.

Mt. Pleasant expects to have a smaller roster than nearly every team play this fall. As a result, conditioning has been a big point of emphasis for the Oilers during the first week of practice.

“Almost every team on our schedule is going to be bigger than us,” coach Jason McIntyre said. “They’re going to have more players, a little more depth. So our challenge will be being in shape and finding ways to use everybody.”

Quarterback Ryan McIntyre returns under center for his senior season. McIntyre is the son of head coach Jason McIntyre. He said that connection helps him as a senior leader to understand what his father is looking for from the team.

“I’ve been around him so long I can kind of see defenses and other things and kind of know what he’s thinking,” senior Ryan McIntyre said. “It’s really important that me and him are on the same page and we’ve been pretty good at that.”

“I think we’re ready. We’ve been waiting for our time and we’re happy that it’s finally our time,” added senior Korey Davis.

Mt. Pleasant opens its season on the road at Kalamazoo Central on Thursday, Aug. 26.
