Cedarville Eyes 17th Consecutive Winning Season

CEDARVILLE – The Cedarville football team opened practice this week as it goes for after its 18th consecutive playoff appearance and 17th straight winning campaign.

Cedarville’s lone losses last year came against defending 8-Player Division 2 state champion Pickford and eventual Division 2 champion Powers North Central in a regional final.

This year’s Cedarville roster will feature mostly juniors, with only three seniors suiting up.

The Islanders will face another tough schedule this fall, but opponents will have to watch out for Cedarville’s speed.

“I did have some underclassmen that played,” Cedarville coach Scott Barr said. “Aiden Andrus, he’ll be playing the split end and quarterback. We’ll be young. We have some speed and a little bit of dynamics.”

“Aiden runs a 4.7. Hoss (Hossack Sweeney) went up to U.P. (track) finals with me. Cason (Smith) is fast. He’s right behind Aiden. We’re fast. There’s no question about it,” added senior Alec Storey.

Cedarville opens its season on the road at Munising on Friday, Aug. 27.
