Central Michigan’s Brown Makes Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watchlist

MT. PLEASANT — Central Michigan linebacker Troy Brown was named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List on Tuesday.

Brown, a junior linebacker from Flint, is one of 90 players representing 61 Div. 1 programs to be named to the list. He is one of four representing the Mid-American Conference.

The award goes to the top defensive player in college football.

Brown was named first team All-MAC in 2019 and 2020. He ranked second on the team last season with 42 tackles, 4.5 sacks and shared the team lead with 31 solo stops. He was credited with eight tackles-for-loss, three pass breakups and one forced fumbled.

This is the second pre-season watch list Brown was named to after he made the Bednarik Award Watch List along with teammate Troy Hairston, which also recognizes the best defensive player of the year.

In 2019, Brown earned the Chippewas’ Herb Deromedi Team MVP Award.
