Ferris State Football Hosts First Spring Game Since 2019

BIG RAPIDS — The Ferris State football team hosted its annual Crimson & Gold spring game at Top Taggart Field on Saturday, with Gold winning 44-36.

The intersquad game was the first for the Bulldogs since their appearance in the 2019 national semifinals after an impressive 27-2 record over the course of the 2018 and 2019 seasons, which also included winning each of the two GLIAC Championships.

Fans were also in attendance at the game, making for a very exciting atmosphere to ring in the start of college football in Big Rapids.

“Our guys really needed to put uniforms on, get this feeling back and then to come out and to just celebrate the game of football,” head coach Tony Annese said. “It’s a great sunny day, great crowd, great day to be a dawg, great weather and I’m thrilled.”

“We haven’t been able to play in front of anybody for a while and just get out here and showcase our skills,” Junior quarterback Evan Cummins said. “The young guys got a lot plays in there today and it was just awesome. It felt like old times again.”

FSU heads into this season ranked as the country’s winningest program over the past six full seasons in NCAA Division II football.

Ferris opens its 2021 season against Findlay on Sept. 2 at Top Taggert Field.
