Mesick’s Historic Postseason Ends Against BC St. Phillip in Semifinals

BATTLE CREEK — Mesick fought hard at Friday’s Division 4 state semifinals, but it’s historic season came to an end against Battle Creek St. Phillip losing in three straight sets, 25-13, 25-20, 25- 19.

The Bulldogs appeared in their first state semifinal game in program history, making for an impressive and unprecedented year for Mesick, which also included this year’s squad winning the program’s first regional and quarterfinal matches.

“We haven’t been to very many tournaments so we haven’t seen that level of competition very often,” Mesick coach Stacy Quiggin said. “So for us to run with them at some points and be ahead at certain points was I’m so proud of these girls for doing that.”

“Honestly we didn’t expect this at all,” said senior Kaylee O’Neill. “And it’s a huge accomplishment for our school, this is the furthest any Mesick volleyball team has gotten so I’m really proud of all of us and we worked really hard to get here.”

Mesick ends it’s season with a record of 24-3, while Battle Creek St. Phillip advances to their first state title since 2014, seeking the program’s 21st state championship.

The Bulldogs graduate 5 seniors from this year’s team.
