MANCELONA – The annual White Pine Stampede ski race will be going virtual in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The oldest and longest point-to-point cross country ski race in northern Michigan, stretches annually throughout the woods and hills of Antrim County.

The race will occur anytime between Feb. 1-12, 2021, and registered racers will receive and t-shirt and a finishing medal.

“We can continue to do this race in a safe manner for this year,” race director Benjamin Tarbutton said. “We don’t want to do this virtually. We want to have a competitive race where we can see all those faces. People travel all over the place and talking with a few skiers. They’re excited that we’re providing something for them to look forward to.”

There will be no overall winners for the 2021 event, but race organizers are asking participants to post their photos to the race’s for a chance to win prizes.
