The 2021 North American VASA Festival of Races has been canceled.

The 45th edition of the North American VASA was scheduled for Feb. 13-14, 2021. The race was set to begin and end at Timber Ridge Resort in Traverse City.

The North American VASA Board of Directors issued the following statement:

American Vasa Festival of Races board of directors has made the difficult decision to cancel this season’s planned races due to the high number of COVID cases in the community and statewide. Also, we must work within the guidelines of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services guidelines now in place. The decision was not made lightly as the board had worked hard to develop contingency plans to stage all events in a manner that was safe for all competitors, volunteers, vendors and spectators. It was a very difficult decision as we had not canceled a race since 1999 and only twice in our 45 year history. The health and safety of our community was the deciding factor.

We appreciate the support of the athletes who had already registered as well as the many sponsors, vendors and volunteers who make all our events possible.

We look forward to hosting our next events the weekend of February 12, 2022 that will be a celebration of winter trails, competition and comradery. Stay safe, healthy and have a wonderful holiday season.
