High School Girls Basketball Season Gets Underway

Interviews And Broll

MT. PLEASANT – The 2020-21 high school girls basketball season officially tipped off Monday with teams taking part in their first practices.

Perennial Division 4 state title contender Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart is one of those schools getting back on the hardwood.

The Irish return six players from last year’s squad that went 21-3 and captured Mid-State Activities Conference and district titles.

Sacred Heart has gone a combined 37-8 over the last two seasons and is excited to get back on the court.

“We’re excited about being able to play, that’s most important thing,” Sacred Heart coach Damon Brown said. “We’re going to do our part to stay safe, keep the girls safe and most importantly have a chance to play this year I think that’s the thing that’s exciting for the girls to be able to play with their teammates and friends. So, we’re focused on that.”

“At the beginning of the year I had no idea that we’d still be in school right now playing sports, and it’s just honestly a big relief that I get to have a senior season with this team,” added Sacred Heart senior Allison Hauck.

Sacred Heart opens its season at home against St. Charles in MSAC play on Friday, Dec. 4.
