McBain NMC’s VanHaitsma Retires After Over 20 Years of Coaching

McBAIN – After more than two decades as a coach at McBain Northern Michigan Christian, there’s going to be a new face on the sidelines.

McBain NMC’s Dave VanHaitsma is retiring.

He’s coached various sports at NMC for 24 seasons, including boys and girls soccer.

While many big things haven happened over the years, like a district title in 2018 and their first conference championship in boys soccer this past season, VanHaitsma says it’s the relationships with the players, families, and other coaches that he will remember most.

“You know each season really is special,” said VanHaitsma. “And it may sound cliche to say that but we’ve had some seasons were we didn’t win much, but to see the improvements over the year is a victory in itself. The players have been exceptional, the NMCS community, we’ve got excellent fans. Just those relationships are wonderful.”

A replacement has the head boys soccer coach has not been announced yet.
