Elk Rapids Slips Past TC Christian for Third Straight District Title

BOYNE FALLS – Elk Rapids captured its third straight Division 3 district championship with a 1-0 win over Traverse City Christian at Boyne Mountain Wednesday.

After a scoreless opening half, Preston Ball found the back of the net with six minutes remaining in regulation.

Wednesday’s win was the eighth straight for the Elk Rapids which has not dropped a contest since falling to Traverse City West back on Sept. 4.

With the loss, Traverse City Christian, which had shut out seven consecutive opponents entering Wednesday’s game, ends its 2020 campaign at 16-3-2.

“We knew we were going to get our chances and we got one, and one was all we needed,” Elk Rapids coach Nate Plum said. “Every game from here on out is a little bit different and they’re all going to be tough and everybody is playing for that last chance.”

Elk Rapids (17-2-4) will now face the winner of the Clare district in a regional semifinal at Clare’s Brookwood Athletic Complex at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28.
