BEAVERTON – A week after opening defense of its Jack Pine Conference championship by grinding out a win over Sanford Meridian, Beaverton faces another tall task this week when it welcomes in Harrison for our Sports Overtime Game of the Week Friday.

Both teams are coming off Week 1 wins, with Beaverton eking out a 6-0 victory over Sanford Meridian while Harrison handled Pinconning 36-13.

“It’s a big game for us, huge game,” Harrison coach Jamie Lipovsky said. “If we want to be able to have a chance to be at the top at the end of the season, we’ve got to beat Beaverton. And it’s at their place so it makes it even more difficult for us.”

Beaverton has won four straight in the series, including a 43-22 meeting last year.

“We need to figure out a way to make sure we can stop them in key situations,” Beaverton coach Aaron Seiser said. “We’re not going to stop them all night, we know that, they’re very good. But as far the overall plan of attack, our kids just have to play. We got to be as tough as we can and hang in there and give ourselves a chance.”

Despite dropping the previous four meetings, Harrison still leads the all-time series at 28-26 since 1950.

“It’s a really competitive game,” Harrison senior Logan Yost said. “Beaverton’s always been a really good team. I’ve got total confidence in my guys that we can really go out and do a good job and get the win.”

“I want to go undefeated again this year,” Beaverton senior Jake Fischer said. “I don’t want to lose to any of the teams in our conference for my senior year. Harrison is in our way so we’re going to do our best to get them out of our way.”

Following Friday’s contest, Beaverton hits the road for Pinconning next week while Harrison pays a visit to Sanford Meridian.

Friday’s game kicks off a 7 p.m.
