Pine River Looks to Large Junior Class to Get Back on Track

LEROY – With a large and successful junior class, the Pine River football program is looking to get back to winning in 2020.

The Bucks opened 2019 in promising fashion, winning three of their first four games before dropping their final five contests to go 3-6.

While Pine River has a small senior class and graduated more than it returns, the Bucks are hoping that the JV program’s success in 2019 will carry over to the varsity level.

“We’ve got a really strong junior class that have put a lot of time in,” Pine River coach Terry Martin said. “They had a pretty successful JV season coming from last year, so they have some really high expectations for themselves. And then the seniors are really feeding off that energy and when you mix those two groups together, it’s been a really enjoyable practice atmosphere and the kids are really upbeat and have a lot of high expectations for the season.”

Pine River opens its year at home against Shelby on Friday, Aug. 28. It marks the first meeting between the two schools.
