NEWBERRY – Newberry football players, fans and their family held a rally Tuesday evening to protest the MHSAA’s decision last week to postpone high school football until spring 2021.
The MHSAA will meet Wednesday to further discuss fall sports and the spring football season, but those attending Tuesday’s rally are holding out hope that the MHSAA will reconsider and allow football in the Upper Peninsula this fall.
“Let us have our season,” said Angela Harris, a football mom. “It is something they look forward to every year. The seniors are going to miss out on the last year of football. It’s really good for their mental health, so please I just hope they listen and they give us a choice in the U.P. to be able to play this fall.”
Harris and other community members have been in continuous contact with the MHSAA and the Governor’s office to make their case.
