When the Sault Ste. Marie volleyball program takes to the court this upcoming season, it will be under the direction of a new coach.
Longtime varsity assistant and freshman coach Jessica Murawski is taking over coaching duties from Lisa Moran, who retired to spend more time with her family.
A former Lake Superior State volleyball athlete, Murawski has been with Sault Ste. Marie’s program for the last six years and is set to inherit a team that went 35-8-2 in 2019 and won its third straight Straits Area Conference championship.
“Lisa (Moran) has just created an outstanding program, Andre (Fortin) as well. He’s the one that I hired in with, so really just the honor of it was not lost on me,” Murawski said. “I really was just taken back and just sat with it for a second and was like, ‘Oh wow, this is awesome’. And then really just got to work and started planning the vision that I wanted to create and help create with the girls.”
Murawski and the Blue Devils are tentatively slated to open their season with a home tournament on Saturday, Aug. 22.
