MISportsNow is putting the spotlight on northern Michigan high school senior student-athletes who had their seasons cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Benzie Central senior Cody Hanson is continuing his football career at the collegiate level after accepting a preferred walk-on position with Ferris State.
Hanson concluded a solid prep career in the fall and helped lead the Huskies to just their second playoff appearance in a decade back in 2018.
The senior capped off his high school career by being named to the West Team roster of the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game.
Hanson is excited to be competing for one of the country’s premier NCAA Division II programs.
“Every kid that loves football, you know, is like, ‘Oh, I want to play in college. Oh, I want to play in the NFL.’ It’s always a huge dream,” Hanson said. “I wasn’t sure I was going to play in college, but now that I have that chance, I’m going to take the full opportunity and go all out.”
Hanson anticipates that he’ll be competing for a spot as either a linebacker or H-back.
