Frankfort junior track and field athlete Owen Roth had high hopes of qualifying for the state finals for a straight year this spring before the coronarvirus pandemic forced the cancellation of schools and spring sports.

It was a tough break for Roth who had qualified for the MHSAA Division 4 4×400 relay as a sophomore but missed out on participating after a storm delayed the race until late into the night and Frankfort elected to not run because of its 2019 graduation ceremony taking place the next morning.

The rising senior already has high goals for his final prep campaign.

“It’s a little unfortunate. But it just really makes me want to make the most out of my senior year,” Roth said. “I just want to do everything I can. I want to qualify for as many individual events and relays as I can.”

Roth has set a goal of finishing in the top 30 in the state for the 2020 cross country season.
