Senior Spotlight: Charlevoix’s Stuck Looking Forward to Future with Michigan Women’s Basketball Program

MISportsNow is putting the spotlight on northern Michigan high school senior student-athletes who had their seasons cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

CHARLEVOIX – Charlevoix senior and University of Michigan commit Elise Stuck didn’t plan on suiting up for her final girls basketball season after suffering an ACL injury last summer.

But Charlevoix’s all-time leading scorer began seeing progress towards the end of the season and made her season debut in the regular-season finale against Traverse City St. Francis back on Feb. 28. Stuck went on to play in all four of Charlevoix’s postseason games prior to the coronavirus pandemic causing the cancellation of the remainder of the 2019-20 season.

“I know for a lot of people they were like, ‘Wow, we did not expect that,’ and really I didn’t for a long time either. It just kind of all started to formulate within the last couple months,” Stuck said. “It was like, ‘Okay, maybe this is something that I can do.’ So we just made sure that everything was set and that I felt good.”

Now Stuck is focusing on joining Michigan’s women’s basketball program in the fall.

“That’s definitely a slightly nerve-wracking thought. The next time I’m going to play is going to be on a Big 10 team in college,” Stuck said. “I’ve just been trying to work out as much as possible and do as much in-game type of speed drills and stuff like that. I’m going to try and implement more of our track sprint workouts, a little bit. So I’ve been looking into that a little bit more.”

Despite a few nerves, Stuck is excited to get back out on the basketball floor.

“We have a great incoming class and they had a great season this year,” Stuck said. “There’s a lot of contributing factors and I’m just really pumped to get there. It feels more real now, so I’m just kind of excited to get there and just see what I can contribute in the first couple months of practice and then into game.”
