Manton Bests Lake City for District Title in Defensive Battle

LAKE CITY – The Manton girls basketball team held Lake City to three second-half points en route to a 26-17 win in a Division 3 district final on Friday.

Manton (21-2) held Lake City scoreless in the third quarter to bring a 19-14 lead to the fourth.

The Trojans brought a 9-2 lead to the second quarter, but the Rangers closed out the first half on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 14-11 at the half.

“Coming into this, everyone was worried and stuff, and I told them as soon as your adrenaline kicks in, I’m going to be okay,” Manton senior Jaden Wilder said. “I think we finally sat down, recouped and realized that we need to play our game, and I think that’s kind of what we did.”

With the loss Lake City sees its season end at 20-2.

Manton will now face Hart in a regional semifinal at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Grayling.
