BELLAIRE – The Petoskey boys and girls ski teams swept a MHSAA Division 2 regional at Schuss Mountain on Monday.
The Northmen boys won with a score of 67, followed by Harbor Springs with an 82 and Great North Alpine with an 86.
On the girls side, Petoskey topped the charts with a 79, followed by Harbor Springs with an 82 and Houghton with a 101.
In the morning session, Gaylord’s Reagan Olli captured the giant slalom with a combined run of 1:08.04. Frannie Kelbel and Mackenzie Gillette from Harbor Springs finished in second and fifth, respectively, while Liesl Stellin from Great North Alpine came home in sixth. Petoskey’s Cassidy Whitener was seventh, followed by Charlevoix’s Kate Klinger, Great North Alpine’s Marina Ascione and Glen Lake’s Marhle Siddall in 10th.
On the boys side, Andrew Truman of Harbor Springs was second in the giant slalom while Petoskey Tripp Thomas, Anders McCarthy and Jimmy Flom finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Benzie Central’s Quincy Thayer was sixth, Glen Lake’s Andrew Pershinske was seventh, Connor Truman of Harbor Springs was eighth, Great North Alpine’s Shane Pilate ninth and Nolan Walkerdine of Petoskey 10th.
In the afternoon session, Olli was second in the slalom while Kelbel was third. Petoskey’s Lauren Rothman was fourth, followed by Stellin in sixth, Ascione in seventh, Benzie Central’s Taylor Stockwell in eighth, Whitener in ninth and Petoskey’s Anna Armstrong rounded out the top 10.
On the boys side, Thomas won the slalom with a combined run of 1:06.43. Great North Alpine’s Cooper Kerkhof was second while Pershinske was third. Gaylord’s Connor Abraham was fourth, followed by Andrew Truman, Great North Alpine’s Ayden Ferris, Great North Alpine’s Sully Husband, Connor Truman, Cole Hoffman of Harbor Springs and Walkerdine who rounded out the top 10.
The top 10 individuals from each event and top three teams qualified for the state finals on Monday, Feb. 24 at Nub’s Nob in Harbor Springs.
