BIG RAPIDS – Former Ferris State quarterback and two-time Harlon Hill Trophy winner Jason Vander Laan has signed with the New York Jets’ practice squad, the school announced Wednesday.
Vander Laan was with the Jets’ training camp over the summer, playing as a tight end before being released. He is the third Ferris State alum to appear on an NFL roster this year, joining former teammates Jake Lampman and Justin Zimmer, who are both signed to the New Orleans Saints.
The school also announced Wednesday that assistant coach and co-defensive coordinator Kyle Nystrom has accepted the head coaching position at Northern Michigan. Prior to coaching at Ferris State, Nystrom served in a similar capacity at Central Michigan and Fort Hayes State.
