TRAVERSE CITY – Behind Barrett Bishop’s hat trick, the Traverse City Central hockey team opened its annual Scott Miller Memorial Tournament with a 5-3 win over Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett on Wednesday.
Bishop and Kyle Knowles combined to score a pair of first-period goals to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead after one.
Bishop tallied his second goal of the game in the final seconds of the second period to tie the game a 3-3 two periods. Scott Klavon then delivered the go-ahead goal in the opening minutes of the third, with Bishop completing the hat trick late in the third on an empty-netter.
Central continues tournament play against Midland Thursday at 6:30 p.m. from Centre Ice Arena. The Chemics handed Toledo St. John’s at 7-2 earlier on Wednesday.
