TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Central volleyball team defeated Gaylord on Saturday in three sets to win the program’s first district title since 2008.
"This was the best 3-0 match I’ve ever played," Traverse City Central senior Hanna Asiala said. "It was just so intense. We had to fight for every point, and we knew that they had a good team and that they could really bring it. We just had to go. We had to do it."
The Trojans rode their momentum from their district semifinal game against Alpena earlier in the day, where they trailed by two sets before winning three straight to advance to the District Final.
"I can’t even believe it," TCC senior Jamie McKenzie said. "Like we started off a little rough, and then we finally built ourselves up and we did amazing. We prove it in practice, but we finally proved it in the title."
