Red Wings Edge Blues, Advance to Matthew Wuest Memorial Cup Final

TRAVERSE CITY – Tyler Bertuzzi’s power play goal in the final minute of the first period lifted the Detroit Red Wings to a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Blues in the 2016 NHL Prospects Tournament at Traverse City’s Centre Ice Arena on Monday.

The win clinched the Gordie Howe Division for the Red Wings, which concluded divisional play at 2-1-0.

Filip Hronek gave Detroit an early 1-0 lead on Monday via a short-handed goal less than three minutes into the opening period.

Ivan Barbashev would respond midway through the period with an assist from Samuel Blais.

Jake Paterson recorded 17 saves in net for the Red Wings.

Detroit will face the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for the Matthew Wuest Memorial Cup. Carolina closed out Ted Lindsay Division play with a 6-3 win over the Dallas Starts on Monday, finishing the tournament at 3-0-0.

The Chicago Blackhawks face the Minnesota Wild in the seventh-place game Tuesday at 3 p.m., while St. Louis takes on Dallas in the fifth-place game at 3:30 p.m. The Columbus Blue Jackets will then meet the New York Rangers for third place at 6:30 p.m.
