CMU Rushes Past Presbyterian in Opener

MT. PLEASANT – Central Michigan dominated on both sides of the ball, as it opened up its 2016 season with a 49-3 victory over Presbyterian (S.C.) College.

The scoring started right away for the Chippewas. Devon Spalding scored on a 69-yard touchdown run on the second snap of the game.

CMU would take only a 14-3 lead into halftime. However, the Chippewas exploded for 35 second-half points to ensure the victory.

The Chippewa defense held the Blue Hose to just 126 yards of total offense, while the Chippewa offense racked up 492 yards.

Jahray Hayes scored three rushing touchdowns. Spalding led the ground attack with 135 yards on 15 carries. CMU as a team rushed for 255 yards.

Cooper Rush was 16-of-26 for 237 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

CMU also intercepted two passes, with Amari Coleman returning his for a touchdown.

The Chippewas next travel to face Oklahoma State on Saturday, Sept. 10.
