Loons Drop Second Straight to Cubs

MIDLAND – The Great Lakes Loons dropped their second straight contest to the South Bend Cubs with a 5-1 loss at Dow Diamond in Midwest League action on Monday.

South Bend got to Great Lakes starter Jordan Sheffield early, tagging the newly-acquired right-hander for two runs on three hits and a pair of walks as Sheffield was chased after recording just two outs in the opening inning.

The Cubs (65-41) scattered five runs over the first two innings, with starter Justin Steele allowing just three hits while striking out seven in five innings of work.

Logan Landon’s double to right field in the sixth scored Luke Raley to get Great Lakes (45-61) on the scoreboard.

Raley and Omar Estevez accounted for four of the seven hits for the Loons.

The two teams will meet again Tuesday.

First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
