TC Central Hosts Passing League

TRAVERSE CITY – As the countdown to the 2016 high school football season continues, Traverse City Central hosted a four-team 7-on-7 scrimmage Thursday evening.

Featuring Traverse City St. Francis, Kalkaska and Muskegon Oakridge, Thursday’s scrimmage placed a heavy emphasis on the passing game.

For second-year Central coach Eric Schugars, this week represents the beginning of a new year for the reigning Big North Conference champion Trojans.

"July rolls around, you want to get involved, you want to get your guys out there against other competition and we had team camp week, passing scrimmages and 7-on-7,” Schugars said. “You know, it’s great when you’re less than a month away and football is going to start. We can do team camps and we can practice and lift and condition together and do workouts and things like that, but it’s nice to do it against other teams.

“You want to see your guys compete and you want to see the effort and you want to see the enthusiasm.  You can form a team in doing that, you can see how guys react to one another, and that’s a big part of, you know, what our program’s going to be about.”

Central kicks off its season at Bay City Western on Aug. 25.
