Elk Rapids Falls to Montrose on PK’s

MT. PLEASANT – A perfect season for the second-ranked Elk Rapids girls soccer team came to halt Friday with a 1-0 on penalty kicks to No 8. Montrose in a Division 4 regional final at Mt. Pleasant.

Seeking their first regional title in program history, the Elks (22-1) held the Rams without a shot on net throughout regulation in the two overtime periods, but lost 5-4 on penalty kicks.

"I felt like my team dominated the whole game. I felt like we got shots off, we just couldn’t finish,” Elk Rapids coach Andrea Krakow said. “They (Montrose) had nothing. They did not play in our offensive end, they played more of a defensive game, and unfortunately, it came down to PK’s.

“This group, they want to be out there playing soccer, that’s all. They just want to play, whether they’re on the field, whether they’re on the bench, the support’s been there and that’s all they care about, is just playing and giving 110 percent effort. And that’s what they did tonight. We just fell short when the score counted.”
