TRAVERSE CITY – Traverse City Central announced the hiring of Greg Farmer as its new varsity girls basketball coach on Friday.
A teacher with Traverse City Area Public Schools since 1991, Farmer previously served as the school’s JV girls basketball coach and interim varsity coach, following Heather Simpson’s resignation on Feb. 5.
"We’ve sort of intentionally taken our time to try and attract some quality candidates to this position, and Greg Farmer emerges to the top and we’re excited to have him be the next lead of our girls basketball program,” Central athletic director Mark Mattson said.
The Trojans finished out the 2015-16 season under Farmer with a 6-1 record, claiming an outright Big North Conference championship.
"I’m pretty excited. It’s a good group of kids coming,” Farmer said. “We have… groups from the middle school that have really dedicated themselves, and you know, they’re just nice kids.”
