MT. PLEASANT – Making its first appearance in the Division 4 wrestling state quarterfinals in two years, Hesperia ended its season with a 32-30 loss to Springport on Friday at Central Michigan’s McGuirk Arena.

The Panthers secured six wins on the day and carried a 30-29 lead into the final match at 152 pounds.

Zach Young (160), Mark Workman (171), Josh Ehrke (285) and Davian Gowens (125) all registered wins via decision for Hesperia, while Connor Baird (103), Cutis Stitt (119) and Gerrit Yates (145) secured pinfall victories.

"We wrestled with four seniors starting today and the rest were freshmen and sophomores,” Hesperia coach Doug Baird said. “I don’t think that’s the last that you’ve seen of this group of guys. I think that this is only going to make them hungrier.”

Hesperia ends its season at 36-7.
