Warren challenges Sanders’ for progressives’ support

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Bernie Sanders has a new challenge in his second presidential campaign: He’s not the only progressive alternative to the front-runner, Joe Biden.

Elizabeth Warren is emerging as another threat to Sanders. She recently campaigned in two Midwest states where the Vermont senator scored key victories during his 2016 primary fight against Hillary Clinton, and she’s winning over some Sanders supporters with a raft of proposals that sometimes go further left than his.

Sanders still draws bigger crowds than Warren, but the pro-worker, anti-establishment brand he brought to 2016 is no longer his alone.

In the critical early-voting state of Iowa, a new poll released Saturday found Sanders tightly clustered with Warren and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, not in the clear second place he’s held in most national surveys.
