Sen. Cory Gardner endorses Trump re-election
DENVER (AP) — Republican Sen. Cory Gardner is endorsing Donald Trump’s re-election effort.
Gardner rescinded his endorsement of Trump in 2016 after a tape surfaced of the reality star bragging about sexually assaulting women. But Gardner told a conservative publication that he now supports Trump’s election. He told the Independent Journal Review that he will back the GOP president because what Democratic presidential candidates would do to his state of Colorado is worse.
Gardner’s office confirmed his statements in the IJR piece.
Gardner is widely considered the most vulnerable Republican senator in 2020. Hillary Clinton won Gardner’s home state in 2016, and Democrats won every statewide race there in 2018.
